Rainfall Warning and Weather Advisory: Funnel Clouds and Thunderstorms Expected

In addition to the Rainfall Warning issued by Environment Canada, a Weather Advisory has been issued, indicating that conditions are favorable for the development of funnel clouds. As experts warn of potential funnel clouds and thunderstorms, it is crucial to stay informed about the latest forecast updates and take necessary precautions.

Funnel clouds, which can transform into weak landspout tornadoes, pose a risk. Although the rotation associated with funnel clouds is generally harmless near the ground, it may intensify and cause weak landspout tornadoes, capable of toppling trees, damaging roofs, and scattering debris over short distances.

Environment Canada advises taking any funnel cloud sighting seriously and being prepared to seek shelter. Funnel clouds often emerge suddenly, making it essential to remain vigilant and stay updated with alerts and forecasts from Environment Canada.

The ongoing heavy showers, accompanied by isolated thunderstorms, are expected to persist intermittently throughout the day. These slow-moving showers and thunderstorms may result in significant rainfall amounts, increasing the likelihood of flash floods and localized flooding in low-lying areas. This poses risks to road safety and outdoor activities.

To ensure driving safety in challenging weather conditions, reduce your speed if visibility is compromised, maintain a safe distance from the vehicle ahead, and be prepared to come to a complete stop if necessary. Keep in mind that heavy rainfall, coupled with hail, wind, and lightning, can make outdoor activities unsafe.

For more information on flooding and to stay updated on the latest details, consult your local Conservation Authority or the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry. Visit Ontario.ca/floods for additional resources and guidance.

In case of severe weather, please report any incidents or observations by sending an email to [email protected] or by tweeting using the hashtag #ONStorm. Stay proactive and stay safe during this period of heightened risk due to the Rainfall Warning, potential funnel clouds, and severe weather conditions.
